We leave the woods behind us in little time. Sepia Town rises on the horizon, its drab appearance signifying the worst of civilization.
The only good quality about this city is its location: A strong point for trade, attracting merchants from all over the continent, together with their extra baggage made of swindlers and thieves.
Much has to be changed in this town.. But that is not something a knight like me can arrange. I fight evil as it appears: Corruption is out of my hands.

As we approach one of the gates a heavy man approaches us, presumably a guard.

"Hey hey, where do you think ya're goin', mate? I'd ask to see your caravan license, but ya don't look like traders to me. Better not be 'ere to start trouble."

"We don't want to bother you."

I slip the guard a coin. He nods and steps aside, looking past us as if no longer acknowledging our presence.

Inside the city walls I waste no time finding the closest inn: "The Cat In The Bag". A vile den of villainy, but still a thousand times better than the rotting streets are at night.
In a twilight between life and death, men drink and gamble and women whore themselves for an eternity.

Taking one sniff of the air inside, Black Fang says that he prefers to sleep in the stables with my mount. I let him.

The two kobolds stand nervously at my side. They are noticeably excited yet intimidated by the big city life.

I better rent a private room for us. One with a lock..
..but my purse feels empty.

This guy has a point.
I think this is all a test you know. An adventure. All moments are challenges to you, but really.

You are good at comat, so combat is not a challenge. Your honor has shown to be unbreakable. Your morals, on the other hand.

We´ve skipped too many opportunities to dive headfirst into adventuring. This miht not be the kind that gets you into a dungeon, or facing an evil overlord straight from day one.

But still is an offer from Fate, to show what you are capable of. Do you accept?

Yes, indeed, we were en route to the elven ruins but stopped at Sepia Town for a much needed rest.
Our plan to earn a bit of coin were shattered, but I believe all of us had a good sleep in the stables. I'm sure my gnoll and kobold friends know nothing else than a bed of straw.

The morning sun is just peeking over the treeline to the east, probably already bathing our destination in light.
A chilly breeze keeps us all awake. We are making good speed.

This left wing of the house turn up little out of the ordinary. Most of the rooms have been stripped, likely due to being looted dozens of times.
A tiny room at the front of the house appears to have been a small bath, perhaps even with a commodity. Another room all the way on the back of the house is definitely a bath. Both have been overgrown with moss feeding on the moisture, and I don't know how the elves got their water inside.

I must note that exploring was quite difficult due to the windows being made of stained glass, now too dirty to let sunlight in. I had to rely on a few cracks here and there to let me navigate.

Now then, I have returned to the foyer. Shall I enter through the double doors or the door across the hall?

They open up to a very large room, presumably a ballroom. A short set of stairs lead up to a massive window, then split up towards a balcony above me.

Right in the middle of the window's magnificence sits a harp.. and its harpist.

He strikes a cord on the harp.

"I'm afraid dancing isn't one of my specialties."
"Anyone can dance, honored guest. Allow me to convince you.. as I convinced my other guests."

His hands begin to move gracefully across the strings, and soon a melancholic tune echoes woefully across the rooms cold floor. It goes complimented by the ringing of chains.
Around me the dancefloor comes to life. Pairs of corpses, suspended from large hooks on chains, descend from the ceiling and begins to spin and move as if performing a waltz. Between them swing hooks without anything on them.

I backstep onto the middle of the dancefloor to avoid being hit by the dancers.

The chains are moving too and erratic to navigate. I'm able to avoid them, but I can't decide what way I'm moving.
If one of the dancers swings my way I won't be able to avoid getting knocked into the hooks.

With some luck there may be an opening I can throw my spear through, but it will be very difficult finding one for a target of that size.

The smell of death does not go well with my fear. I need to get my breathing under control.

I suppose I also hope she will be willing to bear my children one day.. but I don't want to burden her with the daily fear of becoming a widow.

When I return the two kobolds walk up to greet me. It looks like they've been doing nothing for a while, as Black Fang is comfortably napping against a tree.

"Cleaning is done, sir!"

Iesgip salutes, full of energy.

"Awaiting new orders, sir!"

Which brings me to the question..

I will let my tinkerer have a look at the elven technology and let her set up her equipment.
I will request Nakraska to begin work on necessary furniture, and ask Black Fang to assist him with his superior strength.

Let's see... we have our bare basics, which is good, but only a start. If we're going to be starting a battle against evil, chances are we are going to have to expand. We also need someone to spy on the enemy. While spies maybe be low level they are a near requirement when doing battle. They are, for lack of better words, a necessary evil. On the note of confrontation, do we have any plans to meet up with this 'Boss' Character? While I'm sure there will be no chance to persuade him to turn his paths, a face to identify as evil is one of the biggest steps in forming a unified force. I think the next step in our operations should be to confront this 'Boss' head on.

Do the other rooms have ceilings as high as the ballroom, then? It would seem, from our view of the building's face, that the roof falls no lower on that portion of the building. This would imply that there is some sort of space there.

If you want to maintain the respect and cooperation of your hirelings and allies, you should see to their comfort and basic cooperation.
Given that the Goblin tinker comes from a village highly-afraid of Black Fang, she might be a little frightened. While she won't have to share sleeping quarters (good idea separating by gender) with the beast of a man, you should definitely introduce the two of them and see that they get along well. Also, find out her name already!

Just... you know, see that she gets along with everyone here. Introduce her cordially and oversee some interpersonal relations. The kobolds and Black Fang already get along quite well, so just be sure she works with the group, too.

Do you have any idea where I can start my search for Timotei and Sticks? It is true that I have a better place for them now.
I will also need to search for the necessary items to turn my office into a war room.

First, I will look into the hidden floor theory. The ballroom is the only room that is two floors high, and the mansion's front also suggested two floors, but I haven't seen any stairs or doors leading to anything but this balcony.
This is where I'd like to put my bed, overlooking the war room.

As you can imagine, this was the only place not looted. However, the wooden furniture and carpets were rotten, so we had to dispose of them.
