Well It looks like he's dead and partly mummified.

From Ketta's Recollection of her memory the spell that her father would of used is Oblivion Hyper Nova, A spell that doesn't use human sacrifice. So someone beat Ketta to THe King.

Ketta also questions why she has spells that bring about the apocalypse in the first place.
