I open my eyes to realize with relief that I’m in my room at the ship, resting on my own bed. My back hurts, and my lower torso does so too, but it’s not as bad as I expected, more like a numb annoyance. I still feel pretty weak, and just turning my head around feels like a titanic effort.
Meinir is here, and also... oh boy, Doctor. Meinir seems to notice my concern, because she smiles and tries to sound reassuring.
“Welcome back cap’n. Don’t worry, I’ve been watching over Creepo here the whole time, and made sure he didn’t take anything out as a souvenir.”
Doctor groans, annoyed, but not particularly indignant. We’re all too aware of his reputation for that.
“Ahem! As I was going to say... Your recovery is astonishing, captain. You’ve got two holes the size of a ChickenChoke* ball in your hips. Don’t know what made them, but they should’ve pulverized bones and organs in their way out. That added to the massive blood loss, should’ve been enough to do you over. But instead, you’ve only got but mild hip fractures. If we find a competent flesh wizard, you’ll be up in no time.
Meinir pushes Doctor out of the room and decides to tell me what happened when I blacked out.
“Well, I don’t know how did you do it, but you managed to burn down every house around you, and all those masked assholes that were after us. I found you in the middle of that circle of glowing fire, bleeding and babbling nonsense.”
“What about that bitch in black robes? Did I kill her?”
“Don’t know. I guess? There was nobody else with you when I got ya, just flames...”
“... So, what have you planned to do next? We’ve already left the city, I don’t think the people of Livi are very happy with us after that huge fight and the houses burning and all that.”
Ugh... I’d rather not have to make my mind now, I still feel pretty crappy. But I guess you can’t afford that when you’re the captain. The wizard dude at the Guild told me to go to Ovrare, where maybe the wizards can inform me about this gem... Or I could swallow my pride and prepare to reopen all the old wounds and head back home, visit my family and ask the wise men of The Ninoth about it. They’re probably the most powerful mystics alive...
So I gotta decide. Also should I ask Meinir about anything else?
