I need to hear this, before I start smashing the artifact! I'll keep a close eye on Chee, though.
>"Duke, um... I haven't really been entirely honest with you. I mean, yes, I did want to come down here, you know that, but... th-there's no other illusionist. All of that was me. I was the one that contacted Chee trying to play off her assassination, or tried to, but I ended up roping you in instead. I was hoping to get her to help me, since she's not loyal to Lokirm. But it turns out she wanted it for herself anyway, and I... well, setting my illusions at the main dungeon entrance, I tried to throw you off and still get Chee to go down and I would catch up. It got complex when you came down a second time, but I sensed you, and put up two illusions of Tili and Chee to accomplish that. Then you showed up to my door soon after, and, well, I figured I may as well ride with you, and see if Chee could get past everything.
...
>"The lich here tasked me with illusionistic defenses, along with a few others. Mixing our power, with years and years to spend on them, we were able to make the dungeon's illusions so powerful, yet no single one of us could permeate it with all of the other illusionist's work intermingling. That route we took was actually the safest. All that stalling I did... it was to get Chee to take care of the main defenses without having to tell you I was stringing you along.
"That doesn't make any sense! Why go through all the trouble of making it sound like there was an enemy?"
>"You must really hate me, now. I don't think that would work! Why would you have come with me, if you knew I was just going to destroy decades of the lich's work?"
