The colony is the safest place for rats. It's organized, well-protected, and self-sufficient. Decisions that affect every rat are decided by a council, and its military handles everything else on a situational basis. The colony lacks a real name, but it is known by every animal in the area, especially those rats that don't belong to it.

"That would be a logical and correct assumption, yes."

Then head on over there.

He was clearly reassured by your little dance. Good show. Also make sure they're not hand-puppets operated by a cat around the corner. That'd be bad.

That's silly. And probably impossible.

"Adventure, my friends! Aheh, heh..." I clear my throat nervously.

"I hope you know what you're doing," Scars murmurs.

The rats are starting to edge a little closer to us. I don't have a very good feeling about this.

"I don't think we've got the kind of adventure you're looking for, friend," the other rat calls from the hole in the wall. "Lot of dangerous things around here. Dangerous people. Rats get hurt."

"Look, it is pretty clear you are threatening us, but I cannot imagine what you hope to accomplish by it. We aren't doing anything to YOU, we don't have anything to steal, and soft rats like us are probably going to get killed out here anyway, so you can't even teach us a lesson. There is literally no point in being all threatening like this."

If they insist on fighting, try out that fire stick. the ground here is reasonably rough and dry, right?

"Clever words from a colony rat," the speaker replies. "At least you've proven you're too ignorant to be a threat to us." The rest of them seem to let their fur lie flat again, and Scars breathes a sigh of relief.

"This place is not for you, and you won't find adventure here, just secrets and lies." Now that he's leaned out of the hole a bit, I can see the odd symbol painted in blue on his forehead. It's matted and dried, but there are drips running down through his fur from when it was first applied. "Run along now. And don't speak of this to anyone."

That is an odd symbol. It sort of looks like a croissant. Maybe it signifies that he raids the bakery? Nevertheless these guys are no fun, so move onto the next adventure.

"And it was full of really scary rats!"

"What? I can't hear you from up here!"

"But I can hear you fine!"

"You're breaking up! I gotta go!"

"Fine! Why are you going up there anyway? I thought you guys were going back!"

...She's ignoring me. Great.

Any other signs of those symbols painted around? You could use a croissant.

Afraid not! It's the first time I've ever seen anything like it. Heck, we could really use a way to mark things like that. I wonder how they did it.

Thankfully this ledge has a lot of little handholds, so it's pretty easy to get back up.

Here's what I can remember of the colony's location the last few times I went out.

There's a little house for the dog out front, he mostly ignores us. It's sort of an enemy-of-our-enemy thing, there's three cats around that he scares away if they get too close.

There's some tables that sometimes have clean food on them around the back. I saw a well as well, a little ways from the side of the house, and there's a barn in the distance that I heard has an owl in it.

In the back of the house there's a big pile of wood and a shed fulla stuff, but none of it is useful to us. There's also the fields, which are full of food, but none of it is good to eat and you get really sick if you try. We learned our lesson about that a long time ago.

On the other side of the house is the woods, which is chock full of stuff that'd love to catch and eat an innocent rat. I'd sooner go to the barn.

Also out front there's a big path that has a tower on the other side of it. There's another tower by the front door that holds stuff, but it's not a good hiding place because the humans check it every day.

The colony is sort of spread out around the house but most of it is situated on the southwestern wall because it's closest to the food and the humans don't use it much. We're technically not supposed to leave unless we have a reason to, like getting food. Also, we're the only colony around! Which makes the whole other rats thing really weird.

To the fields! There's lots of food oh wait no yeah you're right. OK here's a trick that I'm sure you will love. Go climb the tower by the front door and see if you can find a bright red metal lever on the side of it. Lift it to the upright position then cheese it, and watch what the humans do from afar.

Well, it took some effort to get up here, and some more to get the lever up, but we finally did it! Now, uh, to find a safe place to hide. I'm not entirely sure this is worth breaking the leaving rule, but whatever you say!
